WashVerdict is an independent review and buying-advice site about dishwashers. Our aim is simple: help you choose the right machine for your kitchen, honestly, without hype.

Why WashVerdict exists

Buying a dishwasher is more confusing than it should be. The showrooms are full of near-identical machines with baffling programme names, energy labels that look alarming since the scale was tightened, and reviews that read like they were written by the marketing department. We started WashVerdict to cut through that — to test the machines that are genuinely available in the UK and tell you plainly which one suits which kitchen, and where each one falls short.

We believe a good review tells you who a product isn't for as clearly as who it is. A 15-place-setting full-size machine is the wrong buy for a galley kitchen; a slimline machine is the wrong buy for a big family. Most of our advice comes down to matching the machine to the kitchen and the household — and we'd rather say that plainly than sell you the most expensive thing on the page.

Who writes our reviews

Our reviews are written by Eleanor Shaw, a home appliance tester who has spent years testing and comparing kitchen and laundry appliances. Eleanor judges dishwashers on the things that matter in everyday use: how spotlessly they actually clean a normal load, how well they dry plastics, how loud they are in an open-plan kitchen, how flexible the racks are for real-world items, and how much the machine is likely to cost to run and how long it should last. The verdicts you read here come from hands-on assessment, not spec sheets.

How we stay independent

WashVerdict is funded by affiliate commissions: when you buy a product through one of our links, we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. That funding lets us keep the site free and keep testing. Crucially, it does not buy a place in our rankings. We are not paid by manufacturers to feature or favour their products, and our order is decided by how the machines perform — never by who pays the most. What we cover — and what we don't

We focus narrowly on dishwashers because that's where we can be genuinely useful. Rather than spreading ourselves across every kitchen appliance, we go deep on the freestanding and slimline machines most people actually buy: how they clean, how they dry, how loud they are, how flexible the baskets are and how they cope with a real household's load. That focus is deliberate. A site that reviews everything tends to review nothing well, and dishwashers are a category where small, practical details — the way a rack folds down, the character of the noise at night, whether the plastics come out dry — make the difference between a machine you love and one you regret.

We don't cover commercial dishwashers or the full range of built-in kitchen design in depth, except where understanding them helps you make a better choice — for example, our guide to integrated vs freestanding machines. If a particular type isn't the right answer for your kitchen, we'll say so plainly rather than push you towards a product just because we can link to it. Honest guidance sometimes means telling you to buy the cheaper machine.

How we keep our advice current

The dishwasher market refreshes every year. Models are discontinued, replaced or rebadged, prices swing with the seasons and the sales, and a machine that was excellent value last year can be quietly superseded. We revisit our rankings regularly, update prices and availability, and replace machines that are no longer the best choice for their buyer. When a recommended machine is discontinued, we don't leave a dead end — we point you to the closest current alternative and explain why. Our goal is that whenever you read a recommendation here, it reflects what we'd actually buy today.

Who we write for

Most of our readers are dealing with a very ordinary problem: their dishwasher has broken, or they're fitting out a kitchen, and they want one good recommendation and a clear explanation rather than a wall of affiliate buttons. We write for those people first — the person who wants to know whether to spend £300 or £900, which size fits their kitchen, and which machine will still be working in ten years.
